Price by option

Which option to book

One option, Year Round. It costs $89 per person for the guided paddle with gear and snacks. It runs Monday to Saturday with five start times from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m.

Option Price Departures
Year Round $89 per person, ages 6 and up 5 start times from 5:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Mon to Sat
Means: Two adults and two children aged 6 or older pay $356. Pick 8 p.m. or later for a start in full darkness. An odd party shares a tandem kayak with a stranger.

The catch: The departure needs 6 guests to run. If fewer book, the operator calls 1 to 2 days before. You can move to another date or cancel without penalty. A private trip is the other way out.

The evening

How does the evening work?

A briefing comes first. Then you paddle the mangrove channel to Laguna Grande and come back the same way.

  1. 1
    Check in at Kiosk #11

Your host meets you at Kayak Village in Las Croabas. The kiosk is the second on the right past the gate. Waivers come by email. Sign them before you arrive.

  2. 2
    Learn the strokes

The guide covers the strokes and the safety rules before the launch. You get a life jacket. You share a tandem kayak.

  3. 3
    Enter the mangrove channel

The route follows the channel through red mangroves into the reserve. The guide leads the way and explains the ecology as you go.

  4. 4
    Out on Laguna Grande

Every stroke stirs the plankton that light up the water. Swimming isn't allowed. The glow stays around the paddle.

  5. 5
    Paddle back

The return follows the channel to Kayak Village. The tour ends where it began. Snacks and drinks are included.

The 2 hours include 15 minutes of instruction before the launch. The tour ends at Kayak Village.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Meeting point: Kiosk #11 inside Kayak Village at Las Croabas, Fajardo. It's the second kiosk on the right past the gate.
  • Your own ride: No pickup. Las Croabas is 65.2 km, or 40.5 miles, from Old San Juan by road.
  • Parking and arrival: Free parking on the roundabout to the left of the entrance. Arrive 20 minutes early. You need time to park and find the kiosk.
  • What to wear: Clothes and shoes that can get wet. Bring a towel and dry clothes. Keep your phone with you on the way in case the operator calls.

Before you book

  • The minimum of 6 counts every guest on the departure, not your party. A booking of 2 joins the group. If the night falls short, the operator calls 1 to 2 days before.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

Book it if you have a ride to Fajardo and want the most reviewed bio bay tour on the list. It's an active 2 hours. The paddle back comes at the end. The operator asks for moderate fitness.

For a lower price on the same lagoon, Yokahu's paddle costs $67 per person. Without a car in San Juan, Island Journeys' combo picks you up at listed stops and takes 12 hours for $183.98. For a swim in the bay, Mareaito's boat goes out on La Parguera from $65 per adult.

Means: The pick for most people is a departure from 8 p.m., when the water is fully dark. The 5:45 p.m. start shows you the channel at dusk first.

Who it's not for

  • Children under 6 and pregnant travelers.
  • Anyone over 240 lb, or a pair over 425 lb in one kayak.
  • Guests who can't follow the briefing in English or Spanish.
  • Travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, or without moderate fitness.
